What is your refund and cancellation policy?


Your Democracy Docket premium membership supports our independent, pro-democracy newsroom and directly funds our reporting, analysis and legal coverage.

Subscriptions are non-refundable once charged, though annual subscribers may request a full refund within 7 days of purchase or renewal. You can pause or cancel anytime to stop future billing. 

  • If you pause your subscription, you will continue to access exclusive premium content until the end of your billing cycle. You can request to reactivate your subscription anytime. We will notify you multiple times leading up to the end of your billing cycle with opportunities to reactivate your account. 
  • If you cancel your subscription, you will lose access to premium content immediately and won’t be charged again.

However, we understand that financial circumstances can change. We’ll always do our best to be fair and we reserve the right to issue refunds at our discretion.

Monthly Subscriptions

  • Monthly subscriptions are non-refundable once charged.
  • You may cancel your subscription at any time, and your cancellation will take effect immediately. You will lose access to premium content upon cancellation and you will no longer be charged. 

Annual Subscriptions

  • Annual subscriptions are non-refundable after 7 days from the date of purchase or renewal.
  • If you cancel within 7 days of your initial purchase or renewal, you may request a full refund.
  • After 7 days, you may pause or cancel at any time to prevent future renewal, but your payment will not be refunded.
    • If you pause your subscription, you will continue to access exclusive premium content until the end of your billing cycle, when you will have multiple opportunities to reactivate your account. 
    • If you cancel your subscription, you will lose access to premium content immediately.

Automatic Renewals

  • All subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled prior to the renewal date. 
  • For annual subscriptions, you will be notified at least 15 days before your renewal date with an option to pause or cancel your subscription. 

Gifted Subscriptions

  • You may purchase a subscription on behalf of another person. One-time gifted purchases cannot be canceled or refunded. 

Paused Subscriptions

  • You may pause your subscription at any time. 
  • Once your paused subscription has been processed, you will continue to receive premium benefits until the end of your billing cycle. 
  • We will notify you via email multiple times leading up to that date with opportunities to reactivate your account. If you do not reactivate before that date, you will lose access to premium benefits.

Canceled Subscriptions

  • You may cancel your subscription at any time for both monthly and annual payment plans. 
  • Once your cancellation has been processed, you will lose access to premium benefits immediately, and you won’t be charged again. 
  • If you wish to subscribe in the future, you will have to enter new payment information.
